Wintec Deepens International Ties with Changzhou College of Information Technology

Wintec (Waikato Institute of Technology) has taken another step in strengthening its global connections, signing a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s Changzhou College of Information Technology (CCIT).

The MoU, signed last week at Wintec’s City Campus in Hamilton, sets the foundation for closer collaboration between the two institutions — including academic exchanges, joint research, and the sharing of educational resources.

A Warm Welcome and Shared Vision

The CCIT delegation travelled from China for the occasion and was welcomed with a pōwhiri at Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa Marae. Wintec’s leadership team met with their Chinese counterparts to discuss future partnership opportunities and share insights on the changing landscape of vocational education in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Dr Te Urikore Biddle, Wintec’s Executive Director – Strategy, Performance and Enterprise, reflected on the longstanding relationship between the two organisations.

“Wintec was proud to host members of your faculty in 2019, providing advanced training in industry-focused curriculum design, student-centred learning, and digital teaching resource development,” said Dr Biddle.
“The partnership between Changzhou College of Information Technology and Wintec is one we hold in the highest regard, and we look forward to exploring new opportunities together.”

Dr Biddle and Mr Tao Dawei, CCIT Vice President, formalised the renewed partnership through the signing of the MoU and a traditional exchange of gifts — a custom widely observed in Chinese culture and warmly embraced by Wintec.

Celebrating Cultural Exchange

Beyond formalities, the visit also highlighted Wintec’s commitment to cultural diversity. The CCIT delegation joined students for a dumpling-making event hosted by Wintec’s International team — a lively, hands-on celebration of community and connection.
