The Green Party has declared full support for teachers striking for better pay and conditions, arguing that teacher wellbeing directly impacts student learning.
Spokesperson Teanau Tuiono criticised the Government for prioritising funding for landlords, tobacco companies, and fossil fuel executives while offering teachers what amounts to a pay cut once inflation is considered. He called this an “insult” that is driving teachers overseas.
The Greens insist that fair pay, resourced schools, and prioritising education are essential for children, parents, and New Zealand’s future, urging the Government to treat education as a national priority.
